I attended a graduation this past week. There were five valedictorians. Two of them gave a short speech about how painful and hopeless life is. One even added, "If you haven't experienced pain in your life yet, you will."
There was no hope given to the graduating class.
I was saddened that these seniors felt this way. I want the future generation to have hope.
So, where do you find hope?
I feel hope ties into having a meaningful life.
In late 2017, Pew Research Center did a survey asking Americans about what makes life meaningful for them. The top answer was family. Other answers included job, money, friends, and faith. People also mentioned that being outdoors, caring for pets, listening to music and reading as sources of meaning.
After looking at the survey results and other online articles, I'd add nature and volunteer work to the list. So, what brings you hope and meaning to your life? Think about it and make a list. Then reflect on these things when life gets you down.
